Internal (in-school) collaboration
While at Old Trail School for my school library practicum, I researched updated books for the 8th grade Social Studies Rebels and Redcoats Project as part of their unit on the American Revolution. I used Titlewave and other sources to find and assess materials and created a final list. This was ordered and the books will be processed and ready for students next year! You can read more about my search parameters in this blog post.
External collaboration
While at Old Trail School, I collaborated with author Will Hillenbrand to implement an Ask 10 experience for 1st grade students. After meeting him at a conference, I emailed Will Hillenbrand to set up this collaboration. I then scheduled when to read his books to the 1st grade classes, facilitating the questioning sessions. I organized and typed up their questions and submitted them to him. When we got his response, I shared the video I created of their questions with the students as well as his video response. I led a discussion with the students after each viewing. I emailed photos and updates as well as a thank you to Will Hillenbrand, and I drafted an email to parents which a room parent emailed for the 1st grade class as a whole. Heather Swift, my supervisor, also emailed the collaborative project to six people in the school, including the Curriculum Director and Head of School. In addition to my work on the project, one of the 1st grade teachers let us know, "This is great!! We have had great enjoyment watching it (over and over again) at snack time." More detailed notes about student responses and implementation can be found in my blog posts. The experience received positive feedback from students, parents, and administrators as well.
